G.O.A.L. (Give Our Area Life)
GOAL was founded at the end of 2000 for the purpose of improving the quality of life for citizens and potential citizens of Newman.
After formation, GOAL immediately began trying to make a difference in the community. Some early projects included repainting the City Park, providing city-wide collection of used tires for recycling, picking up unused appliances, providing trees, and initiating welcome baskets for newcomers.
Newman Community Redevelopment, Inc., a.k.a. G.O.A.L., is a not for profit organization exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Award Recipient
In 2003, the Illinois Coalition for Community Service Presented GOAL with the Paul Simon Outstanding Committee Award for their exceptional leadership and community service in the East Central Illinois Area.
Accomplishments
New playground equipment for the City Park
New lights and poles for the City Park
Community Swap to promote evaluation of the town and constructive ideas for the future
Greatest Generation Luncheons to honor citizens age 50 and older
Flower Boxes downtown and a Freedom Garden at the corner of Green Street and City Line Road
Assisted with development of the Newman Community Center including senior citizens room.
